I GUESS
I guess
Time passes for us all
and one has
to sit alone and sip
that cup of coffee
remembering
bits here and there
of younger days
and seasons
When coffee and caring
happened more often.
The caring
still there I know
But now I sit alone
and sip the coffee
trying to remember.
The gladioli remain
fresh as yesterday
their fragrance
reminding me
that I am not alone.
They come now and then,
the reassurances-
phone calls
strange names
surprise visits
twinkling eyes
a new mischief
a hug that says
“I am still there
I care”
The flowers bloom
inside my room
The coffee
a bit sweeter now
for your having come by again.
