7 XII 1974
GOING AWAY
Why must the end come much before
Evening’s last trumpet call
That tells the sun and winds and tardy clouds
That all is done.
No warning comes to make you sure
Your last accounts have
All been tallied.
And all that wasn’t much before
Has now been settled.
No time to set
Your troubled heartat peace.
You have to go –
And behind leave a past
That history must needs sweep
Into neglected corner
Where dust and cobwebs
Make silent estimate
Of all that you were worth
$$$$$ $$$$$
Convulsive spasms
Another form of
Violent expression
Seeming the unexpressed
Moments of despair.
Writhe, squirm,
Twisted imbroglio
Momentary exhibition of
lasting dregs..
leftovers of yesterday’s dreams
unfulfilled
today’s promises forgotten
in conflict with
tomorrow’s uncertainties.
Nightfall overtakes twilight
Sunlit moments of cloudy day
Remembered only
To be destroyed.
