My dear

Good to reconnect with you.

College things continue here for me…

I spend a lot of my time with young people and I learn so much from them.

I learn so much from the trees and plants in my backyard garden.

And I learn from other things as well…

These days much of adolescent lingo includes phrases like “chill man” “YO man” “dude” “bro” and stuff like that.

Years back the word “dig” was more popular. “Do you dig acid rock music?” “Do you dig Shakespeare?” “I dig junk food!” and other strange expressions.

In that context here’s something for you…

Cartoon

Dig it… enjoy it…celebrate it…feel comfortable in it… dazzle… and if you can do this with others … all the better.

If you like plants and have a garden like I do, all the better. Happy digging!

Quite literally that happened some time back in my backyard garden. A bunch of seemingly enthusiastic students volunteered to clean up and beautify and arrange my garden.

They came twice and pottered around doing a lot of planning and discussing. They then shifted most of my potted plants to one corner of the garden and drew a blueprint of how they would re-arrange all these pots. They also did a bit of incomplete sand- papering of four garden grills I had… wanting to paint them black afterwards.

They did not come back. Three months later with help from other sources I had to get all the plants shifted back and the grills painted.

There is a moral to all this about adolescent enthusiasm and commitment and responsibility.

I leave it to you to decide what that moral is.

Doesn’t matter now… the garden continues doing what gardens do and I am happy for the green glow I have in my backyard.

And I continue to “dig” other things. Like mails and music and art and other indulgences.

It is good to see life as a garden.

You do that too. You dig it too!

Love, Terry
