Chances are that you will find them too! Like the gospel “pearl of great price” that a merchant looked for and found…..Or the gospel “treasure hidden in a field”. “Seek and you will find…” is another gospel message to encourage us in that direction…
I do some of that in my little garden… looking for new buds and bloom, new shoots and leaves… and it is like a daily game we play, my garden and I. You cannot imagine my childlike delight when I find something new there. I am sure my garden knows this and playfully prepares rare surprises for me… Recently I found three new blooms playing hide-and-seek in the green leafed surround they were growing up in. And more surprises pop up every day…
I do what I can to make these rare things possible and my garden is happy about that too!
Looking for the rare things in life adds surprise and excitement and adventure and a lot that makes for more fulfilment and wonder in our growing up. Funny thing is that the rare things in life often find you… like a surprise opportunity, a gift someone brings to you…a stranger who walks into your life and becomes a good friend… a talent that you never knew you had popping out when there was a need for it… and so much more.
Ordinary and routine can be exciting as well… depending on the attitude we have towards these. There is so much of seemingly ordinary and routine in my life – counselling, going about my daily things, washing clothes, cleaning my room…etc. – but I do these with excitement. Just this morning I gave a haircut to one of the fathers, did some carpentry work on my bed and cleaned up my table top… felt good about it! I cannot remember ever being bored for decades now. There is “rare” in the ordinary as well.
So go ahead and do that… look for and find the enjoyable rare things in your life!
