We need to learn that really… more for our own sakes than for the sake of the one who has done us wrong. Unforgiveness scars us deep inside, eats into our peace and serenity, and hovers over us like a haunting unhealthy cloud of discomfort.
No, we may not forget the hurt but we can bring health and healing to ourselves if we forgive.
And if we are somewhat hesitant and cautious with those who have hurt us, that is understandable too. It is not easy to forget. And it might be prudent to be somewhat careful with those who might have hurt us.
“Be wise as serpents but simple as doves” says Jesus in the gospels.
Been there, done that….. and I am grateful for the ensuing peace I have in my life because of it.
Little rough sometimes and the hurt may linger awhile, but I can carry on comfortably when I gracefully forgive.
I cannot remember who said this but it is a precious quote:
“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the flower leaves on the heel that crushes it!”
More fragrance to all of you….
