Way into December already! I got back last month, on Nov. 19th from the 11 day SSL rural camp 2010! The overall feeling is gratitude to God for everything having gone off beautifully, nothing majorly bad having happened (there was one unnecessary crisis, though), and my having survived it all though I was a little worn out and tired for the whole exercising experience.
I am happy to say, though, that at 65 I am still fit enough to go through all the physical and otherwise challenges without asking for too many concessions.
Two really bizarre and heavy thunderstorms added much hyperactive excitement at camp. They happened at night and there was no electricity and we were not quite sure about what we had to be doing. Most of the campers got soaking wet in the downpour trying out makeshift repair to the damage even as the storm continued….But we managed well enough and adjusted to the inconveniences gracefully…
Yet another rural camp under my belt and I am grateful for another bunch of amazing students who shared 11 exciting days with me…
Here’s a brief pictorial summary….my different moods during the whole experience have also been captured by some of the camp photographers….
I shall continue wondering why I carry on doing this kind of thing year after year!
Much had to be done after my return. I managed gracefully to clear out all the post camp backlog: washing up, more washing up, recovering, accounts, putting things back into place and making sure that all is set aside and stored-up ready for another camp next year.
And yes, I managed to reply to practically all of the mails accumulated over the eleven days I was away!
Not much of a post-camp break though. Classes and regular college things began on Nov. 22nd … and it was wonderful being back again with all the adolescent enthusiasm and hysteria that so surrounds my life here.
Project Care of the SSL happened busily after that – Dec 11th/12th. Very busy time and quite stressful for me with so many things having to fall into place. 150 student volunteers and 100 underprivileged children….Outings…activities here…snacks/meals… entertainment…music…fun…confusion!!
Everything went off well and I am happy that it is all over!
And now of course the coming Christmas break! Really looking forward to that with family coming down and a promise of happy celebrations.
And just in case you are wondering how quickly this year has flown by take heart. I am wondering too!
2011 sounds a good number thought and as usual I shall look forward to more wonders as another year comes upon us.
That’s it for now. You take care and added sunlight and other wonders to your own life.
Lots of love, Terry
