My dear

Another anecdote for musing and possible enlightenment!

Ever since he was a child, a certain man always had a fear of someone under his bed at night.

So he went to a psychiatrist and told him,” I’ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there’s somebody under it.

I’m scared.  I think I’m going crazy.”

“Just put yourself in my hands for one year,” said the psychiatrist. “Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.”

“How much do you charge?”

“Eighty dollars per visit,” replied the psychiatrist.

“I’ll sleep on it and if needed I will come back to you,” the man said.

Six months later the Psychiatrist met him on the street.

“Why didn’t you come to see me about those fears you were having?” he asked.

“Well, eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money!

A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought myself a new car.”

“Is that so?”said the psychiatrist. And with a bit of an attitude he continued: “and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?”

“He told me to cut the legs off the bed,” said the man, ” ain’t nobody under there now! “

Maybe we should look for similar simple solutions for fears of things that lie under our own beds or chairs or under our hats or in our backpacks! Unnecessary fears we carry with us like treasured pets, nursing them even as we crumple and cringe from the effect they have on our lives.

Get free! Cut the legs off the bed !!!

Another way, perhaps, of tackling problems like these is to get everyone on top of the bed ! Families should try this out some time ! Nothing like togetherness to sort out differences and drive away unnecessary lurking doubts or fears.

The happiest people in the world

are not those who have the most,

but those who fully enjoy

the little that they have..

and share that little willingly with others!

I remember childhood days when we were many and beds were insufficient. Quite often my two brothers and I (three of us) had  two beds to share. The problem  always was deciding who would have to  sleep in the middle where there was a gap in the mattresses and  the wooden frames of the  joined beds made the night sleep difficult and restless. I do not think we made too much of an issue of it and life went on as we continued adjusting to the beds and to other everyday situations.

Thanks to mum and dad we learnt to adjust and manage with what was there (clothes, food, toys, beds!) and we were generally satisfied. There was not much lurking under the beds and  life went on…..

Not that there were no problems or upsets or strange things we did… but that is  also part of life, I guess.

I used to sleep on the floor for many years not because of austerity or anything like that. Thought it was good for the back. No empty space under that kind of bed for any kind of   frightening haunting things.

Then I discovered that if you had a bed you could store a lot of things under it. Things which otherwise remained in sight and crowded up the room.

Occasional old time ghosts return now and then but I deal with them as and how I can.

All this is history. What I do now and how I adjust now will be history tomorrow…and the way that history is written and how it will affect me really depends on me!

May your own history be something you will always want to look back to and cherish as you waltz your way through life!

Take care.

Love, Terry
