I had a really glorious Christmas season with some of my family and my most recent twin grandnephew and grandniece! I find it difficult to believe I am a granduncle already!
Over the encounters we had, we discovered that there was no generation gap between the infants and me. We got along gloriously together with conversations about doorknobs and old photographs as well as about passing dogs and Christmas stars.
One of them, Myles, even accompanied me on the guitar as we sang our own composition “Wakkachoo…” to anyone who wanted to listen to us.
I am really overjoyed to know that kids get along with me…
And for the rest of us oldies there it was a real amusing break of sorts with many of my siblings and in-laws ( who are well into the 55+ age bracket) uninhibitedly making baby-talk conversations, banana feeding the kids , even changing nappies when required and generally caring around excitedly.
My niece, the mother of the twins quite enjoyed the break she was getting!
They have already returned to their home in the US… and the family here has gone back to its somewhat carry-on-with-life-and-living mood!
Distances and spaces and time… and those children will grow up so differently… but beautifully I am sure… and we will meet again.
It is always a season of grace when one connects with little children and I consider it a blessing for having met them…
Ah yes, college and regular related things continue… with exams happening for some and busy/serious moods replacing adolescent casualness about life in general. Life goes on as it must.
Wonderful times and joyful celebrations right through the rest of the year for you!
Take care.
Love, Terry
