My dear
After a hot, humid, dry spell of more than 25 days it is raining again… downpour rain …YYYAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY !
The trees and plants are properly washed and the ground is floating wet and soggy. Occasional adolescent exuberance… and splash rain dances tempered by CIA exam anxiety. Soaking wet they come in messing up my floor as they ask for umbrellas and change of clothes to go home in. I oblige as always…
I love the rains… the heavy downpour rains with occasional bursts of lightning and long and frenzied rumbles of thunder.
We’ve had quite a bit of these in June when the monsoons got under way and I am looking forward to some more…
And the college corners have their own different charm during the rains….

I gaze out from the shelter of my counselling centre and deeply breathe in the spray-relief that comes from the rhythmic monsoon shower drumbeat sounds and the now-new freshness smell of the rainy splish-splash encounter with the earth mud…
Downpour streams noisily cascading from the corrugated asbestos awnings of the neighbouring XIC building. The garden welcomes the shower blessing, shrugs off doubts about wash-cool times and clean-greens its way into continued promise…
The come-and-go wet spell after the occasional gaps of dry, is welcome.
Of course those who have to manoeuvre the uncertain streets will have to hop-skip weave their ways through puddles and potholes and slush and the overflow of blocked drainage systems.
One has to cope with inevitable monsoon inconveniences.
There will be leaky roofs too… and windows that do not quite stand the onslaught of water laden winds….
Plastic sheets and other hurried make-shift protection…. life will go on….
But the rains come and there is an understandable sense of relief all around..
Our prayer is that the rains will stay… and there will be an abundance of it in the catchment areas that have the lakes that supply water to this teeming beleaguered city…
And suitable and timely rains in the farmlands as well…
Showers of monsoon blessings on this whole country of ours… Amen !
College things carry on. General adolescent exuberance and occasional hysteria filters through heritage and reconstructed college corridors and spaces…The autonomy graced students stagger their way through assignments and CIA exam challenges just now …wondering what has happened to all the “chill-out” time they thought that education was mainly about!!
And academics has ceased to become extra-curricular as the challenges continue.
Meanwhile the new FYJC admissions have come in and settled down with their “Alice in Wonderland” approach to all that Xavier’s will have in store for them..
The monsoon rains will come and go …and through the wet and dry we will continue growing older as gracefully as we can….
An abundance of happy rain blessings to you and the family that side!
Take care. Love, Terry
