At 66 it is nice to know that I can still do all of it with the best of them! I have to confess that it is not as easy now and I do get breathless and exhausted sooner. Fortunately they are sensitive to my limitations and ease me off to less tiring assignments at the work site. It is a bit humbling not to show off as in bygone camps but I guess I will have to get used to that as the years pass by and I weary out more easily.
It was really an awesome wonderful camp and the group rose up to whatever challenges were thrown at them at work as well as everywhere else.
Summarising a day in the camp …
morning double whistle shrill startle
dream ruptured ..nowhere to hide
surrender.. up and about folding.. flexing
exercise rush : stretch jump bend turn
breakfast interlude : slow and steady
worksite dramatics song and shuffle
pick.. shovel ..pass.. dump..empties
crowbar heroics… gamela line rocks!
interlude glucose water respite
return to pick/shovel rhythm lines
taken in swing catch stride : no cribbing
river-time revelry welcome splash
piping hot lunch bonding break
team-building.. tea assorted biscuits
back to worksite spirited energies
baths.. mellow mass musings
light and shadow yummmm dinner
hummm-buzzz inquisitive insects
questioning invasive presence
eval time and fun performances
sportingly dared much encouraged
time and glory for everyone
winners all though different endowed
hush time final night prayer..quiet curtain
unwrap sleeptime things wrap up all else
submit to pitch dark neath palm-tarp canopy
tired dreams.. high above occasional twinkle stars….
rural camp 2011 : pushing boundaries
getting there and going beyond!
terry: october 2011
We did it too… and it was heart-warming to see how they all went beyond : at work, in sensitivity, in cleanliness and in general camp spirit. More growing up happens when goodwill meets opportunity!
Rest and recuperation time now and I am glad that we have two whole weeks before college reopens. I need the break.
Nothing special…just getting things together again and catching up with here and there stuff. You may not want to believe this but I am also getting things ready (electricity connections/lamps/rope lines etc) for the 2012 camp! It makes more sense to do it now when I still remember what might be needed and more suitable.
Celebration season now… bright lights and hopefully non-shattering happy noises!
happy Diwali!! to you and your family
Take care. Lots of love, Terry
