When we think of loss <\/em><\/p>\n we think of the loss through death, <\/em><\/p>\n of people we love. <\/em><\/p>\n But love is a far more encompassing theme in our life. <\/em><\/p>\n For we lose not only through death, <\/em><\/p>\n but also by leaving and being left, <\/em><\/p>\n by changing and letting go and moving on. <\/em><\/p>\n And our losses include not only <\/em><\/p>\n our separations and departures from those we love, <\/em><\/p>\n but our conscious and unconscious losses <\/em><\/p>\n of romantic dreams, <\/em><\/p>\n impossible expectations,<\/em><\/p>\n illusions of freedom and power, <\/em><\/p>\n illusions of safety – <\/em><\/p>\n and the loss of our own younger self, <\/em><\/p>\n the self that thought it would always be <\/em><\/p>\n unwrinkled and invulnerable and immortal. <\/em><\/p>\n These losses are necessary <\/em><\/p>\n because we grow <\/em><\/p>\n by losing and leaving and letting go.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Judith Viorst<\/p>\n Lots of love, Terry<\/em><\/p>\n —<\/p>\n terryq@xaviers.edu<\/a> — I do find it very inspiring and\u00a0 it makes so much sense in the light of\u00a0 all that happens to us as we grow through the losses of our lives….
