College things continue here for me\u2026<\/p>\n
I spend a lot of my time with young people and I learn so much from them.<\/p>\n
I learn so much from the trees and plants in my backyard garden.<\/p>\n
And I learn from other things as well\u2026<\/p>\n
These days much of adolescent lingo includes phrases like \u201cchill man\u201d \u201cYO man\u201d \u201cdude\u201d \u201cbro\u201d and stuff like that.<\/p>\n
Years back the word \u201cdig\u201d was more popular. \u201cDo you dig acid rock music?\u201d \u201cDo you dig Shakespeare?\u201d \u201cI dig junk food!\u201d and other strange expressions.<\/p>\n
In that context here\u2019s something for you\u2026<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dig it\u2026 enjoy it\u2026celebrate it\u2026feel comfortable in it\u2026 dazzle\u2026 and if you can do this with others \u2026 all the better.<\/p>\n
If you like plants and have a garden like I do, all the better. Happy digging!<\/p>\n
Quite literally that happened some time back in my backyard garden. A bunch of seemingly enthusiastic students volunteered to clean up and beautify and arrange my garden.<\/p>\n
They came twice and pottered around doing a lot of planning and discussing. They then shifted most of my potted plants to one corner of the garden and drew a blueprint of how they would re-arrange all these pots. They also did a bit of incomplete sand- papering of four garden grills I had\u2026 wanting to paint them black afterwards.<\/p>\n
They did not come back. Three months later with help from other sources I had to get all the plants shifted back and the grills painted.<\/p>\n
There is a moral to all this about adolescent enthusiasm and commitment and responsibility.<\/p>\n
I leave it to you to decide what that moral is.<\/p>\n
Doesn\u2019t matter now\u2026 the garden continues doing what gardens do and I am happy for the green glow I have in my backyard.<\/p>\n
And I continue to \u201cdig\u201d other things. Like mails and music and art and other indulgences.<\/p>\n
It is good to see life as a garden.<\/p>\n
You do that too. You dig it too!<\/p>\n
