Happily so&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And I do not feel deprived at all about things I do not have&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>About finding new uses for old things&#8230; here&#8217;s a beautiful and inspiring story&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>One day one of Buddha&#8217;s disciples approached him and humbly said :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Teacher, while you are so much concerned about the world and others, <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>why don&#8217;t you also\u00a0 look to the needs of your own disciples?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha : &#8220;Well spoken. Tell me , how can I help you?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;Master, my attire is worn out and beyond decency for wearing. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Can I get a new one please?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha found that the robe was indeed in a bad condition and needed to be replaced. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He asked the storekeeper to give the disciple a new robe to wear.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The disciple thanked Buddha and retired to his room.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Though he had met his disciples requirements Buddha was not all that happy with his decision. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He realized that he had missed out some point.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A little while after, he realized what he should have asked the disciple.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He went to his disciples room and asked him:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Is your new attire comfortable? Do you need anything more?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple : &#8220;Thank you master. The attire is very comfortable. I need nothing more.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha: &#8220;Having got a new one, what did you do with your old attire?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;I am using it as my bedspread.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha: &#8220;Then&#8230; I hope you have disposed of your old bedspread?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;No.. no&#8230; master. I am using my old bedspread as my window curtain.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha: &#8220;What about your old curtain?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;I am using\u00a0it to handle hot utensils in the kitchen.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha: &#8220;Oh I see. Can you tell\u00a0 me what you are doing with the old kitchen cloths?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;They are being used to wash the floor.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha: &#8220;Then the old cloth being used to wash the floor&#8230;. ?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Disciple: &#8220;Master, since they were torn off so much and I could not find any better use for them,\u00a0I made wicks for the oil lamp that\u00a0 is right now lit in your study room.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddha smiled in contentment and left for his own room.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-2352\" src=\"https:\/\/ultrazaps.com\/terryblogg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cid005801cb6f6bdollar1d44e7f0dollar0100007fxaviers.gif\" alt=\"cid:005801cb6f6b$1d44e7f0$0100007f@xaviers\" \/><\/p>\n<p>photo : terryq<\/p>\n<p>Finally the ultimate use&#8230;.for things&#8230;. for ourselves :<\/p>\n<p>to become wicks for the oil lamps of the Buddha&#8230; wicks in the oil lamps of God&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And the world becomes all brighter and more beautiful for who we are and what we are doing&#8230;.. !<\/p>\n<p>We may grow old but we never need to become or feel\u00a0wasted&#8230;. and it is important for us to believe that too!<\/p>\n<p>Whatever our age and condition, there is always something for us to do\u00a0&#8230; something for us to be useful for&#8230;..a still beautiful way for us to be!<\/p>\n<p>And there will always be something exciting for us to look forward to &#8230; like retirement\u00a0 in the year 2030 or thereabouts for me!!!!<\/p>\n<p>I am not worried about that. I will have lots to do even afterwards, I am sure!<\/p>\n<p>Testing\/counselling carries on &#8230; with the big rush that will continue even after college reopens in June.<\/p>\n<p>My little oil lamp continues lighting up all that I do.<\/p>\n<p>May that happen to you as well.<\/p>\n<p>Take care.
