some discomfort<\/p>\n
subtle suppressed<\/p>\n
sitting all alone<\/p>\n
in an autumn restaurant.<\/p>\n
Only fallen leaves<\/p>\n
and empty chairs<\/p>\n
to spend time with<\/p>\n
or talk to.<\/p>\n
The silent glasses<\/p>\n
empty now<\/p>\n
of cheers and voices<\/p>\n
songs and warmth<\/p>\n
of those who cared<\/p>\n
but had to go……<\/p>\n
It’s not as if<\/p>\n
you yourself<\/p>\n
have nowhere<\/p>\n
to get up and go to.<\/p>\n
Your scene is here.<\/p>\n
Your time is now.<\/p>\n
\u201cAction……!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cCut…………!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPrint……….!\u201d<\/p>\n
And then it goes on.<\/p>\n
Editing…..<\/p>\n
and the final show.<\/p>\n
Fragmented past<\/p>\n
filters through<\/p>\n
residual foliage.<\/p>\n
Play patterns<\/p>\n
break into dream ballets<\/p>\n
of softened sunlight.<\/p>\n
You take it all in<\/p>\n
and still believe<\/p>\n
in yesterdays and tomorrows<\/p>\n
in friends and caring.<\/p>\n
No one who has been<\/p>\n
a close while with you<\/p>\n
can ever go away.<\/p>\n
No one who has<\/p>\n
shared a seat<\/p>\n
or a cup of tea;<\/p>\n
who has walked a mile<\/p>\n
or braved a storm with you;<\/p>\n
No one<\/p>\n
who has sat still at twilight<\/p>\n
or learnt with you<\/p>\n
to smell the flowers<\/p>\n
can ever go away.<\/p>\n
The silent stirrings of your soul<\/p>\n
come and go, gently reminding….<\/p>\n
And you breathe in<\/p>\n
a greater definition of presence<\/p>\n
than your senses allow.<\/p>\n
You are not alone<\/p>\n
although no one is there with you.<\/p>\n
I often wonder much myself<\/p>\n
about the things that matter<\/p>\n
in togetherness……….<\/p>\n
Being there?<\/p>\n
Writing letters?<\/p>\n
Sending caringly wrapped gifts?<\/p>\n
Recognizing your voice over the phone<\/p>\n
even before you speak?<\/p>\n
Or travelling an extra unnecessary way<\/p>\n
just to be with you?<\/p>\n
Do these things matter?<\/p>\n
May be they do…..<\/p>\n
Or maybe we’ll find out<\/p>\n
just by doing them till they pass.<\/p>\n
And in all of this<\/p>\n
to be really free.<\/p>\n
Deeply free inside<\/p>\n
so that you can come and go<\/p>\n
and I can come and go<\/p>\n
and we will always be there.<\/p>\n
And there will be others too,<\/p>\n
those who were there<\/p>\n
in the now autumn restaurant.<\/p>\n
Those who were there<\/p>\n
in the spring and summer.<\/p>\n
Those who laughed and sang,<\/p>\n
those who ran in the rain,<\/p>\n
those who just sat down<\/p>\n
to \u201cmiddle-age\u201d passages of time,<\/p>\n
those who brought with them<\/p>\n
and shared for a while<\/p>\n
the mellowness of friendship<\/p>\n
and fellowship and caring.<\/p>\n
Once upon a time<\/p>\n
the autumn restaurant<\/p>\n
was alive<\/p>\n
and that precious season<\/p>\n
no one can take away from you.<\/p>\n

could also be<\/p>\n
like standing<\/p>\n
with your back<\/p>\n
to the writing<\/p>\n

for sure<\/p>\n
but you wait expectantly.<\/p>\n
Maybe someday<\/p>\n
someone will come<\/p>\n
and help you read<\/p>\n
the lines<\/p>\n
and what is there<\/p>\n
inbetween.<\/p>\n
Things<\/p>\n
will change then…<\/p>\n
Shadows will fade<\/p>\n
into the distance<\/p>\n
Your life<\/p>\n
will be the pen<\/p>\n
that writes again.<\/p>\n
The wall<\/p>\n
will be the world<\/p>\n
more beautiful now<\/p>\n
for what<\/p>\n
