we circle sit
and circle talk
pretend
that yesterday’s idols
had feet of clay
poke and push
and tumble down
rearrange
for tomorrow’s prayer
another idol
steady
stable
feet of bronze
stand back
and gaze in wonder-
good god!
We’ve forgotten
the head!
