it’s nice to walk the open spaces
climb the heights to new found dreams
see beyond the edge of mountain
other panoramic scenes
the air is cleaner, purer, lighter
new-born grass makes hill rock soft
though steep incline makes passing slower
heart and spirit rise aloft.
it’s nice to walk the open spaces
climb together with a friend
talk of this-that or of nothing
wish the walk would never end
no decision when to turn back
breathe in sunsets breathe out sky
celebrate a mountain flower
watch an eagle soar and fly
we climb up mountains, down to valleys
chart the rise and fall of life
dance with joy the wonder seasons
pray and bide our time through strife
Thank you for the walkings I have
sometimes walked, time spent with you
climbing up together, sharing
happy things we’d say or do
passing years so much more gracious
may we spend them joyfully
looking now to newer hills
